"Rest assured you do not want to be in my head while I am driving. I had a vision of a woman and two friends arm and arm prancing up to the abortion clinic singing;
(To the Tune of 'We're off to See the Wizard')
We're off to kill a fetus
the fetus that's eating me
Though, it's against the will of your god
for me to kill ba-bies
If men could share the risk we took
we'd find this right in holy book
but we know that they fear us cuz we bleeeeed
and really only need them for their seed.
(cloning will soon make them obsolete!)
We're off to kill a fetus
and then we'll have a massage!!!!"

I think it's simply the best song ever made.

mood: So, so sad. And so very angry.
How Could You?
VOICE OF THE VOICELESS
So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.
I am the voice of the voiceless;
Through me the dumb shall speak,
Till the deaf world's ear be made to hear
The wrongs of the wordless weak.
From street, from cage and from kennel,
From stable and zoo, the wail
Of my tortured kin proclaim the sin
Of the mighty against the frail.
Oh shame on the mothers of mortals,
Who have not stooped to teach
Of the sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes,
The sorrow that has no speech.
The same force formed the sparrow
That fashioned man the king;
The God of the whole gave a spark of soul
To furred and feathered thing.
And I am my brother's keeper
And I will fight his fight,
And speak the word for beast and bird,
Till the world shall set things right.
- Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919)
"If a man aspires toward a righteous life,
his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals."
- Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1910)
In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and
complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never
attained, living by voices we will never hear. They are not brethren,
they are not underlings, they are other nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and
travail of the earth."
- Henry Beston (1888-1968)
"The worst sin towards our fellow creatures
is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them. That's the essence of inhumanity."
- George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)
"I have no doubt that it is a part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals."
~Henry David Thoreau
"...if one person is unkind to an animal, it is considered to be cruelty, but where a lot of people are unkind to animals, especially in the name of commerce, the
cruelty is condoned and, once sums of money are at stake, will be defended to the last by otherwise intelligent people."
~Ruth Harrison
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress
can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
- Mohandas Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics,
which is the goal of all evolution.
Until we stop harming all other living beings,
we are still savages."
- Thomas Alva Edison (1847 - 1931)
"As far back as I can remember I was saddened by the amount of misery I saw in the world around me. Youth's unqualified joie de vivre I never really knew, and I believe that to be the case with many children, even though they appear outwardly merry and quite free from care.
One thing that specially saddened me was that the unfortunate animals had to suffer so much pain and misery. The sight of an old limping horse, tugged forward by one man while another kept beating it with a stick to get it to the knacker's yard at Colmar, haunted me for weeks.
It was quite incomprehensible to me--this was before I began going to school--why in my evening prayers I should pray for human beings only. So when my mother had prayed with me and had kissed me goodnight, I used to add silently a prayer that I had composed myself for all living creatures. It ran thus: 'O, heavenly Father, protect and bless all things that have breath; guard them from all evil, and let them sleep in peace.'"
~Dr. Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965), from "The Light Within Us"

Dear Friends of Animals:
The Red Cross has launched its latest hard-mail fund raising campaign. This year, on the heels of Hurricane Katrina, animal lovers everywhere are outraged over the Red Cross's inhumane 'no-animals' policy. Because of this policy, countless animals were abandoned and countless animals died. Equally sad is the heartbreak suffered by the devastated families forced to leave their animals behind.
This year, when you receive your donation request from the Red Cross, return the envelope with a MESSAGE and NO MONEY.
A possible message might be:
"I can no longer support the Red Cross. Because of the Red Cross's heartless 'no animals' policy and unwillingness to coordinate and share resources with animal rescue organizations, people died in their homes to protect their animals. Countless animals died at home abandoned by their families. And millions of families are consumed by guilt having been forced to leave their animals behind.
I am part of a national campaign to change the Red Cross's inhumane 'no animals' policy. If the Red Cross wants my money, the Red Cross will have to change."
Please distribute widely and thank you for helping to make this change.
If you don't want to wait for an appeal, and would like to contact them, here's the info:
